“Art is up to you how you present it.”
For more than 20 years, Tattooish, now also known as the illusionist, has operated under his concept of Colors as Choices and as an autistic master of his own reality. He is a multiple award-winning artist, born on the small Caribbean island of Curaçao, and currently one of the most influential artists in the Caribbean. With roots in self-study in crafts such as airbrushing, culinary, painting, sculpture and various other forms of expression, Ish’s influences can be found in the roots of artists such as Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Nicola Tesla, Galileo, Buddha, and many other teachers who have influenced him not only as an artist but also as a person.
His knowledge of tattooing has taken him to South America, North America, Canada, Scandinavia, Central Europe and hundreds of other countries. He has been published in numerous magazines, including Tattoo Society, Inked Magazine, Freshly Inked (on the cover), Savage Magazine and Tattoo Life Magazine, to name a few.
He has collaborated with Jack Rudy, Freddy Negrete, Mark Mahoney, Good Times Charley, Paul Booth, Stefano Alcantara, Deano Cook, Franco Viscovi, Steve Soto, José Lopes, Darwin Henriques and many other influential artists.
He has won Best of Show at events such as the Philadelphia Eddie Convention, NYC Roseland in New York, Musink in California, Rock the Ink, Reutlingen, Miami, Baltimore, Seattle, Boston, Venezuela, Colombia, Italy, to name a few.
As an autistic student of life who has traveled all continents in search of a deeper understanding of art, the colors in his work for 2024 represent his island heritage of turquoise and aquamarine colors. He intends to use these colors to explain how colors influence our behaviors, choices and projections.
Tattooish the Illusionist, as he calls himself, believes that we all have a preference for specific colors, and he projects himself onto the collector without limitation.
He has developed concepts such as Proteam for brands, aftercare solutions, product developments, tattoo machines and how we turn customers into collectors, or tattoo store into tattoo studio.
He aims to expand speed and fluidity in tattooing, freedom of expression and combat depression in tattoo artists and collectors.
For him, self-expression is essential to his survival in an art form influenced by the basic principles of “monkey see, monkey do.
In Limburg, the Netherlands, he has his academy. After many years of traveling to bring perspective to those less fortunate, he has adapted his work to our sustainable future. He abandoned traditional methods of tattooing and converted the process to a cleaner and less product-intensive method. What is unique about his style is that all his color work is done with primary colors, so no premixed inks. This changes the dynamics of how much material is needed to place a clean tattoo.
For him, the concept lies in how we as a group can lead our clients/collectors to a more balanced self-expression.
In 2024, Tattooish (the illusionist) will once again travel the world to participate, teach and illustrate a new wave of artistic expression.
He is headquartered in Limburg, where he has a tattoo and art school. Anyone who wants to learn about art or tattooing is welcome.
